Is it permissible for a Muslim to practise stoicism, and apply the philosophy of the stoics objectively within a shar'ee domain?

Question

Is it permissible for a Muslim to practise stoicism, and apply the philosophy of the stoics objectively within a shar'ee domain? Are such books permissible to read objectively or critically with an Islamic mind?

Answer

It is not permissible to practice stoicism which is a philosophy of the ancient mushrik Greeks. One should not read such books merely for passing time or for mere interest. Only if the intention is to refute the baatil of a philosophy, may it be studied. There is no scope in the Shar'i domain for satanism.
