Question
Some Ulama say that products containing shellac are permissible because eating insects is not prohibited in any "Divine revelations, and that it is only because normal persons find it disgusting……….". Please comment.
Answer
The opinion expressed about shellac and the arguments advanced to render it 'halaal' are all bunkum and trash. Shellac and insects are haraam. The spurious arguments proffered are laughable and stupid.
