Question
What are the virtues and rewards of being an Imaam to lead in Salaat?
Answer
In fact, it is best to abstain from imamate. The dangers of imamate are considerable. The responsibility is too great. It is not advisable to become an Imaam. Only if circumstances compel, should one very reluctantly step forward to lead the Salaat. There are no virtues. In fact, a person who hankers after imamate suffers from riya and takabbur (show and pride). Never incline to imamate. Stay far from it.
