Question

Please comment on the poor quality of the hifz of today's huffaz.

Answer

A person who is unable to recite the whole Qur'aan at any given time is not a Haafizul Qur'aan. He is a crank. If a Haafiz recites the Qur'aan daily in all his Salaat (not only short Surahs), and if he makes a minimum of 10 Juz Tilaawat, and another five Juz whilst walking and working, then his Hifz will become entrenched. But the problem is that the so-called huffaaz are slaves of the nafs. They only begin struggling during Ramadhaan. Then they battle for hours to learn a little so as to perform four raka'ts. Such a person is never a Haafiz. You have to recite abundantly the entire year. Hifz is a great and a sacred responsibility.
