Who were the Bani Israaeel?

Bani Israaeel means the Children of Nabi Yaqoob (the Jews). His designation was Israaeel which is the equivalent of Abdullah (the Slave of Allah). It does not refer to the country, Israel. There never was such a country. The land today known as Israel is part of Palestine.
