Some Hanafi Ulama say that there is ijma' on the permissibility of eating whale. Is this correct? It is well-established that whales and dophins are not fish.
Answer
When there is difference of opinion and when the majority of Hanafi Ulama say that whale is haraam, how can there be Ijma'(consensus)? Those Hanafis who say that whale is halaal are in error manifest.
