A non-Muslim woman went to work dressed with scarf and abaya.

Question

A non-Muslim woman went to work dressed with scarf and abaya. Is this permissible. Her Muslim boss rebuked her and told her that it is not allowed for her to wear this attire. Please comment.

Answer

If a non-Muslim in this country adopts Islamic dress, how will she be prevented? It is her constitutional right to dress or undress as she deems fit. In terms of the Shariah, it is not permissible for the Islamic authority to allow non-Muslims to dress like Muslims. In a genuine Islamic state (and there are none presently) non-Muslims will not be allowed to adopt Islamic attire.
