A friend who sells counterfeit goods has given me dates for Iftaar.

Question

A friend who sells counterfeit goods has given me dates for Iftaar. Is it permissible to eat the dates at the time of iftaar?

Answer

If the person deceives people by passing off counterfeit merchandise as 'original', then it is not permissible to eat the food he serves. Iftaar should not be made with the dates of such a dishonest scoundrel. His earnings are haraam. Give the dates to some poor person.
