I want to have a khatm of Qur'aan function when moving into our new house.

Reciting the Qur'aan Majeed whether in a new or old house is meritorious. But there is no custom in Islam to organize a khatam to be attended by relatives and friends to grace the occasion of a new house. Such functions are usually merrymaking and are motivated not by a desire for barkat, but by show, vanity and pride.
